The Loon Echo Trek is memorable as much for our trekkers as our dedicated volunteers. Each year, we rely on the generosity of nearly 100 people. Our volunteers contribute in multiple ways from registering people upon arrival to directing traffic to cheering participants along the route.
To volunteer, please review the following information and then email trek@lelt.org.
Appreciation
Volunteers receive lots of praise and appreciation before, during and after the trek. You also receive a free tee-shirt and meal on the day of the event.
Assignments
Volunteer assignments include registration, safety monitors, rest stop managers, entertainment coordinators, cheerleaders and more. We do our best to match volunteers with their preference; however, we also appreciate your flexibility filling in where we need help the most. If you have a friend or family participating in the trek, we will ensure you can see them at some point along on the course.
Clothes
The weather in Maine is unpredictable, especially in September. In addition to the tee sheet we provide, we ask all volunteers to wear comfortable shoes and to bring layered clothing, including rain gear. A hat, sun block and folding chair are also smart to pack.
Food & Water
Lunch is provided for all volunteers who want it. Water will also be available for all shifts; however, we recommend you bring your own water bottle to conserve on trash.
Fundraise for Prizes
Just because you are not hiking or cycling does not mean you can’t help raise money to protect land in Western Maine. All volunteers will be assigned an on-line fundraising page and you are welcome to recruit donations and earn the same prizes as participants.
Final Details
Prior to the trek, our Volunteer Coordinator will email your volunteer assignment and event schedule. Depending on your assignment, you may be asked to attend a volunteer orientation on Monday, September 10th in Bridgton. This information will be provided in the email.
Youth
The Loon Echo Trek is a family event and we welcome children to attend as participants, volunteers or guests. To volunteer, youth must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian if under 16 years old.
